Alpine Meadows Resort and Campground – August 19th

Bernie had read about this resort on one of the web sites he follows for campgrounds and this was one of the only ones that got a “10” rating, so we decided to check it out.  Big mistake as far as getting there was concerned.  We drove (I was driving) up the side of a mountain for about 18 miles – 8 of which was a dirt road.   When we got there, we could see why people raved about the location – it is breathtaking – right on a lake and we had the entire campground to ourselves.

The rest of the guests stayed in beautiful log cabins.  The resort is rated in the top “25” of destinations in Canada.  Too bad they don’t tell you about the horrible road.  Apparently there is different way in that doesn’t include the dirt, but does include a ferry boat ride which we are too big to go on.  Anyway, after we were settled we checked out the place.  The lake is beautiful and the restaurant is located at lakes edge.  We made reservations for dinner and then decided we might dress up a bit over our jeans and actually wear nice clothes to dinner.  Kinda fun!!!  Dinner was delicious and the view just couldn’t be beat, but we kept thinking about the drive out in the morning.

View from the patio of the restaurant - unfortunately the sun was going down.
