Off to Homer

Up early and on the road.  The boys have only been passengers in the motor home on one other occasion and I thought there could possibly be a problem as to who was going to ride shotgun.  I knew it wasn’t going to be me.  Ben started out and then when Bernie and I switched driving Jack sat up front.  We stopped several times to enjoy the incredible view of the volcanoes.   After lunch in Soldotna we headed south.  Stopped several times for photo ops of the gorgeous view of Mt. ILiamma..  Got to the Bay Crest campground and found we had a picture perfect view of the ocean, the Homer spit and the beautiful mountains all around us.  Since Bernie and boys needed to check in for their bear trip adventure we hit the road once again and head to the Homer spit.  We had decided early on not to stay on the spit because of the weather.  They all got checked in – passed their weight checks and were good to go.  After all kinds of instructions on what to wear, what to eat before they go and what they can and can’t bring on the plane, we were off to dinner.  The place that the “bear lady” suggested was packed, but since she so highly recommended it we decided to wait it out.  What a horrible mistake.  The food was great, when we finally got it.  We ordered an appetizer which took 20 minutes to get to the table and then we waited another 40 minutes for our dinner.  The server kept coming to the table saying would only be a few more minutes – haha!!  The owner acknowledged, without us saying anything, that we had waited an unusually long time and sent over the dessert tray for the boys to pick something to take with them.  All in all we should have just left.  The boys were angels through the whole ordeal and we were so proud of them. Tomorrow is the bear trip.                                                       Mt. ILiamma
