Dawson Creek and Kiskatinaw Bridge

Today was a much needed rest day.  We had a really long day yesterday and tomorrow is even a bit longer.  The first thing we did was visit Alaska Highway House.  A wonderful museum dedicated entirely about the building of the highway.  "Brutal, harsh and unimaginable" is the way it was described by the thousands of men who worked on  the Alaska Highway.  We were amazed at the wonderful photographs and artifacts.  Of course I had to have my photograph taken in front of the famous Mile 0 Post - another sight to behold of me dodging traffic to get into the middle of the street and Bernie telling me that I'm crazy.  After an early lunch we were off to the famous Grain Elevator Art Gallery and Visitor Center.  It was very interesting being inside a grain elevator.  Then it was off to photo of the Mile 0 Cairn and to see the Surveyor Statue.  This statue was build as a tribute to the men who built the highway.  Since the Pioneer Village hasn't opened for the season, we decided to drive out of town to the Kiskatinaw Curved Wooden Bridge.  It is the only original timber bridge along the highway that is still in use.  It took as long to build the bridge as it did to build the highway.  All in all it was a rest day and I was able to finally update the blog with photos due to our great wi-fi here.   Tomorrow  we head to Mile 1 of our journey up the Alakan Highway.  Can't wait!!!
