We arrived in Banff with still more smoke. It’s really awful not be able to see the
mountains and we feel so sorry for the folks that have never been here before
to miss the gorgeous scenery. After we
got the motor home set up we went into town and headed for the library. It’s not fun when we don’t have wi-fi in the
campgrounds, but we have learned that the public library is the place to
be. We checked on our email and I was able
to the post more blog entries. When we
had finished the library we went to Magpie and Stump a local hangout that
serves amazing Mexican food. Thanks to
Yelp, my new favorite friend.
The next day we headed to town for a look around at all of
the shops, restaurants, nightclubs and spas located in downtown Banff. It’s a beautiful city with lots to see and I
especially loved all of the hanging flower pots and the flowers
everywhere.
After our look around town we went to Cave and Basin, the
birthplace of Canada’s national parks.
It’s a small cave with bubbling mineral waters. You are not allowed to get into the pools,
the one in the cave and the one above the opening outside. In the day, this was the place to be and be
seen. Many pictures of the ladies in
their full piece get ups and the men in their full piece suits. A beautiful building was designed to
incorporate the cave and the pools and to showcase how it has evolved from the
“good old days” when only the very rich could visit.
Next on the agenda was a late lunch and early dinner at
Melissa’s Missteak House and it wasn’t a mistake. Fabulous meal – again thanks for the tip
Yelp.
Up early this morning to head once again to the library –
Bernie has to have his fix. This was not
a good day at the library as his computer had a major crash – so no more
computer for Bernie. My IPad is not
strong enough for all the stuff he wants to do, so tomorrow we will be heading
for Cochrane – our next stop anyway to purchase a new laptop.
After the disaster at the library we headed out to the Banff
Spring’s Hotel. We had been there
before, but they have added a whole new wing to the hotel and it’s
beautiful. They were having a very fancy
wedding there and all of the ladies were in long gowns and the men in tuxes. We had fun watching them arrive. They looked like they were going to the
Academy Awards. I didn’t take any
pictures, but it sure was fun.
After wandering around the hotel we went down the road to
Bow Falls. A very popular location for
wedding photos and family photos as well.
I did my share of taking photos for families and I finally convinced
Bernie we should have someone take a photo of us. He never wants me to ask anyone, but I did
anyway and I love the picture.
